Screen tests
Projections exist in the invisible thickness of light. Images travel through space as a beam of light, their existence depending on the surface that catches it. Projection screens have long been a standard support for illusions, carrying the vision of the artist or filmmaker. A conditioned way of looking at projections, or rather certain blindness to the screen, allows for the ethereal play of light to assume the status of materiality. I build video installations that reverse this process. These screens are made with nylon, stainless steel and cotton fibres using various weaving methods. The projected image is distorted due to the diffractive, reflective and anamorphous quality of the strings and the three-dimensionality of the screen.
